Exploring Your Edges

Values are the personal, intimate, and internal barometers of what’s important to a person and what isn’t. In my workshops I use the mini values reflection that follows to help clients explore the edges of their value boundaries. While these queries most always yield the best insights when they are shared back and forth in conversation with another human, I hope that the introspection can point you toward the values that are most sacred to you. If you have opportunity, I encourage you to invite a thought partner into your discussion. Th ere is treasure to be harvested as every experience, good or bad, can become a priceless learning opportunity.

MINI VALUES REFLECTION

Part 1: Name the last time you got extremely upset with a person or a situation. Perhaps you had an argument, an altercation or like Tatum witnessed something disturbing. What was it about? What was going on for you? The specific details of the incident are not important here, instead reflect about what was triggered:

• I felt powerless. • I felt disrespected.

• I felt judged. • I felt unloved.

• I felt unseen or unheard. • I felt controlled or manipulated.

• I felt unsafe. • I felt trapped.

• I felt excluded. • I felt like I couldn't speak my truth.

• I felt blamed.
